So you are thinking about ditching the cube farm and seeking the wonderful refuge of working from your couch and having a 2 second commute in the morning instead of the awesome thrill of stop and go traffic. But wait! Can it be that easy and who is going to pay me to work from my house you maybe thinking? These are all great questions so let's dig in shall we.
Can it be that easy?
Well yes and no. What in the world does that mean you ask? According to a comic strip on oatmeal.com which is pretty funny by the way the pro is that you can get up at a more reasonable time, work with fewer distractions and have a more flexible schedule. The con is that you will be alone, perhaps have new distractions and it could put stress on your personal relationships. So only you can determine if this type of scenario would work for you. In my opinion, the best people for this type of work situation are self-motivated, organized and able to create their own work regimen without needing someone to prompt them..i.e. a boss.
Is this real?
Yes. There are a slew of companies that will pay you to work from home. The trick is finding the opportunities that match your skills and interests. This type of work situation is becoming more common than you think. According to an article on slate.com more companies are adopting a new work perspective called ROWE-results only work environment. This new work attitude "“gives everyone in a company the freedom to do their job when and where they want, as long as the work gets done.” This works for companies because it increases employee morale and saves them lots of money. So the question to ask yourself is are you ready to work in the 21st century workplace: Your Home. Or is all this freedom to much for you to handle? Let me know your thoughts.
