We have all been there. Our boss sucks and our co-workers are people that we wouldn't probably hang out with on our own free time. And most importantly the work we are doing is so life sucking. This my friends is the description of a job you hate. Are you living this dream or maybe I should say frightmare right now? Here are 5 easy tips you can use to stop the madness and move on from a job you hate to greener pastures.
1. Figure out what your hobbies are and turn that into a career opportunity.
Do you like to write in your free time or play music? Maybe you can turn these interest into a career as a copywriter or create music for companies that need production audio.
2. Start Networking.
I know what your thinking...I am so busy. Who has time to do anything else? Well I get it. But you have to find a way to network with folks and start creating relationships with other people that you don't work with. A good place to start is meetup.com and of course LinkedIn.
3. Start Volunteering
Volunteering is a great way to use the skills you have and to discover new talents. It is also a great way to check out many organizations out there that you may want to work at one day. A great place to start is volunteermatch.org. This is the hub of all volunteer opportunities. Think about taking on a leadership volunteer role. This can spice things up a bit by being more of a challenge for you and can reflect really good on your resume. Double win!
4. Look for a new job
I should clarify that instead of looking for a new "just over broke or aka job" you should look for a new career opportunity. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. Don't do that. Check out glassdoor.com to get an insiders view on different companies and positions then go directly to the site and apply to the opportunities. Plug in what you are looking for on my job board and see what pops up.
5. Grab some new skills.
I am sure you are a fabulous (fill in the blank) but you can always get better or maybe you want to switch gears and go in another direction. Time to hit the virtual books. Check out Udemy or other cheap ways to learn on the fly. Time is money!
